The Byzantine churches of Mani, follow different architectural types, from simple outbond temples to churches cruciform with a dome. Many of them follow the Middle Byzantine system of cloisonne masonry, while some have incorporated architectural parts of ancient temples.
There are also differences in the hagiography as well and most of the paintings are works of local "folk" artists, in some cases their quality testifies hand probationer artists who probably were called from other areas.
